From Teacher to Franchise Partner: Tom’s Journey to Bringing Success Tutoring to New Zealand
After more than a decade in education and a previous career in law and business, Tom knew there had to be a better way to support students and their whānau. He loved teaching, but found himself stuck in a cycle of long hours, administrative overload, and limited opportunities to create something of his own.
“Helping students has always been my passion, but I wanted to make a bigger impact, not just in the classroom, but in the lives of families and the wider community.” Tom shares.
Everything changed when he discovered Success Tutoring.
Discovering the Future of Education
Tom had seen what the tutoring industry looked like in New Zealand — and where it was falling short.
“I’d worked with other major tutoring providers and could see the gaps. Parents wanted something more modern, more flexible, and more personalised. Success Tutoring ticked every box,” he explains.
From the very first conversation with the Success Tutoring team, Tom knew he’d found the model that could revolutionise tutoring in New Zealand.
Making the Leap: From Teacher to Entrepreneur
Leaving the security of a teaching career wasn’t easy — but Tom was ready to take control of his future.
“Success Tutoring gave me the support, the systems, and the confidence to step out on my own. I’m now building something meaningful that gives me energy every day,” he says.
This leap didn’t just transform Tom’s professional life it gave him more balance at home. By running a profitable business with clear structure, he now has the time and financial freedom to spend with his family.
A Groundbreaking Launch in NZ
Tom’s centre in North West launched as the very first Success Tutoring location in New Zealand a milestone that’s set the tone for expansion across the country.
“Seeing parents excited about their kids enjoying tutoring has been incredible. That’s the most rewarding part we’re making learning something students actually look forward to,” Tom reflects.
Building a Legacy
Today, Tom leads a thriving centre that combines small-group, face-to-face teaching with Success Tutoring’s innovative membership model and parent app. His vision is to continue expanding, building stronger connections with local whānau, and empowering students to unlock their full potential.
“Running this business has given me purpose and freedom. I’m not just teaching anymore, I’m building a legacy,” he says.
Tom’s Advice for Others
For teachers, educators, or professionals who feel stuck in the daily grind, Tom believes this is the perfect opportunity to take back control.
“If you want to make a real difference while building a business that gives you freedom, Success Tutoring is the way to do it. The model works, the support is there, and the impact you’ll make on students and families is life-changing.”
