Tutoring Franchise in Peru: The Complete 2026 Guide | Success Tutoring New Lynn Grand Opening

Ask a Peruvian family about school and the conversation soon reaches el examen de admisión. Peru has no single national university entrance test: each university runs its own admission process, and places at the most sought-after public universities are fiercely contested. That has produced one of Latin America's most distinctive education businesses, the academia preuniversitaria. For anyone considering a tutoring franchise in Peru, it is proof that families pay for academic results, and a clue to where the gaps are.

This guide covers the school system and admission exams, the academia tradition, why tutoring demand is strong, how a tutoring franchise compares with other options, franchise rules and licences, and how Success Tutoring approaches Peru.

The Peruvian school system and the admission exam

Basic education in Peru runs from inicial through six years of primaria and five years of secundaria, following the Ministry of Education's (Minedu) National Curriculum. A student finishing quinto de secundaria does not sit a national leaving exam that unlocks university; instead, they apply to each university separately.

At public universities, that means a competitive written exam. The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) in Lima, founded in 1551, shows the scale:

  • According to the state news agency Andina, 7,932 applicants sat the second day of San Marcos's 2026-I admission exam in October 2025, competing for places in basic sciences and engineering.
  • For the 2026-II process in March 2026, Peruvian press coverage reported 4,656 applicants for 108 places in Human Medicine.
  • The exam combines knowledge questions across school subjects with aptitude questions, according to La República's coverage of the 2026-I process.

The Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI) and regional public universities run similarly competitive processes, and many private universities set their own tests or interviews.

Why tutoring demand is strong in Peru

  • The academias. Academias preuniversitarias prepare students, often in cycles of a few months, for a particular university's exam. Universities also run their own pre-university centres (CEPRE), some of which offer a route to direct admission. Families who pay for these cycles are showing a clear willingness to invest in education.
  • Foundations. The admission exam tests years of learning, not just the final year. In PISA 2022, Peru scored 391 in mathematics according to the national report published by Minedu's Office for the Measurement of Learning Quality (UMC), well below the OECD average of 472. National learning assessments continue to show gaps between regions and between schools.
  • English. English is part of the National Curriculum and increasingly expected by private universities and employers, and parents in Lima, Arequipa and Trujillo look for help outside school to strengthen it.

The academias focus on the last stretch before the exam. The steady, weekly need of primary and lower-secondary students in maths and English is served mostly by private teachers and small local institutes.

What a tutoring franchise is

A tutoring franchise licenses you to run a learning business under an established brand, using its curriculum, systems, training and marketing. You invest in and own the business and employ the team; the franchisor supplies the model and ongoing support in exchange for the fees in the franchise agreement.

Success Tutoring runs a membership model: families join for a set number of weekly sessions in a physical, retail-style centre, rather than paying for one-off cycles. Revenue is recurring and the focus is retention and steady progress. According to the company's own news posts, centres in Australia have opened with 45, 55, 60 and more than 70 members signed before opening day, through structured pre-launch marketing.

Tutoring franchise vs academias, worksheet centres, private tutors and independent centres

  • Academias preuniversitarias. Intensive, exam-specific and well understood by families. Strong for the final year; not designed to build foundations from primary school.
  • Kumon-style worksheet centres. Kumon, which operates in Peru, uses a self-learning method built on graded worksheets that students complete at their own pace. It has a long track record with that approach. Our Success Tutoring vs Kumon comparison explains how the models differ.
  • Private tutors. Personal and flexible, but dependent on one person, with little structure or progress reporting.
  • Independent centres. Local knowledge and freedom, but the owner builds curriculum, marketing and training alone.
  • A tutor-led tutoring franchise. A personalised K–12 English and Maths programme with tutors in a branded centre, and a launch and support system behind the owner.

Success Tutoring does not compete head-on with the academias: it works on the base so that students reach quinto de secundaria with solid fundamentals. Families can use both at different stages.

What to look for in a tutoring franchise in Peru

  1. Curriculum alignment. Ask how the programme maps to the National Curriculum from inicial to secundaria and how it is adapted into Peruvian Spanish.
  2. Positioning against the academias. Ask how the brand explains year-round membership to families used to paying by cycle.
  3. Launch system. Ask how the franchisor fills a centre before opening. See our launch support page.
  4. Tutor recruitment. Ask how tutors are recruited, contracted under Peruvian labour rules and trained.
  5. Location. In Lima, district matters: traffic, school density and family income vary sharply between districts. Ask what site selection and leasing support you will receive.
  6. Local support. Ask who will support you on the ground in a market where the brand has not yet launched: head office directly or a master franchise partner.

Franchise regulation and practicalities in Peru

Peru has no franchise-specific law and no mandatory pre-contract disclosure document. The franchise agreement is an atypical contract governed by the Civil Code and by what the parties agree, so your own due diligence carries more weight. Points to raise with a Peruvian lawyer:

  • Trademarks. Brands are registered with Indecopi, which also handles consumer protection and competition. Check the franchisor's mark is registered or applied for in Peru.
  • Company and tax. Register the business and obtain a RUC with Sunat, the tax authority, and plan for VAT (IGV) and income tax with an accountant.
  • Municipal operating licence. A centre needs a licencia de funcionamiento from the district municipality, which involves a building safety inspection. Check zoning and the licence requirements for the address before signing a lease.
  • Education rules. An academic support centre is not a school or a university, but check with a lawyer whether any sector registration applies to your specific programme.
  • Data and minors. Peru's personal data protection law (Law 29733) applies to student and family records, and staff working with children should be screened.

This is general information. Take local legal and tax advice before signing anything.

How Success Tutoring approaches Peru

Success Tutoring was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2017 by Michael Black and has been franchising since around 2020. It has announced international markets including New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Canada, the United Kingdom and India. Peru is not one of them: at the time of writing, Success Tutoring is looking for franchise partners and a master franchise partner for Peru, and it has no centres there.

Partners receive the model built in Australia: retail-style learning centres for K–12 students focused on English and Mathematics; a membership model with launch and pre-marketing support; site selection, leasing and fit-out support; tutor recruitment and online tutor training; learning resources and ongoing marketing under a global brand; and a flat structure in which franchise partners deal directly with head office leadership. Success Tutoring is a member of the Franchise Council of Australia and the International Franchise Association.

Franchise partners do not need to be teachers. Fees and earnings are not published in articles; see the investment schedule. In the Peruvian Spanish version of the site, the franchise territories page shows Peruvian cities and indicative territories. Frequently asked questions

Is there demand for a tutoring franchise in Peru?

Yes. University admission exams draw thousands of applicants, families already pay for academias and private teachers, and PISA and national assessments show room to improve in maths. A tutoring franchise can serve the years before the exam.

Does Peru have a franchise disclosure law?

No. There is no franchise-specific statute or mandatory disclosure document; the contract and the Civil Code govern the relationship. Have a Peruvian lawyer review the agreement.

What licence does a tutoring centre need in Peru?

A municipal operating licence (licencia de funcionamiento) from the district, including a safety inspection. Check zoning before you sign a lease.

Does Success Tutoring compete with academias preuniversitarias?

Not directly. Academias focus on intensive preparation for a specific exam; Success Tutoring builds English and maths foundations week by week from inicial to secundaria.

Is Success Tutoring open in Peru?

No. Success Tutoring has not announced a launch in Peru and is seeking franchise partners and a master franchise partner there.
