Success Tutoring vs Acadomia: Comparing Two Tutoring Franchise Models | Success Tutoring Camden Grand Opening

Anyone researching an Acadomia franchise is looking at the most recognisable name in French soutien scolaire. Founded in 1989, Acadomia built a national network of local agencies that match families with tutors who teach at the pupil's home. Success Tutoring is a tutoring franchise founded in Sydney in 2017 that runs a very different model: retail-style learning centres where families join as members and trained tutors teach on site.

Both are legitimate ways to own a business in private tutoring. They rest on different assumptions about where the lesson happens, who employs the tutor and what the franchisee actually manages day to day. This guide sets those differences out side by side, using Acadomia's own publications and French franchise directories for every figure about Acadomia, so you can judge which tutoring franchise model fits your goals.

At a glance

  • Founded: Acadomia in 1989 in France, with franchise development from 1999 (ac-franchise directory). Success Tutoring in 2017 in Western Sydney by Michael Black, who started at 17 (Forbes Australia, Inside Small Business).
  • Ownership: Acadomia belongs to Domia Group, which also owns the Shiva housekeeping brand. Private equity firm Cinven acquired Domia Group in October 2024 from IK Partners (Cinven and IK Partners portfolio pages). Success Tutoring is privately owned and founder-led.
  • Model: Acadomia agencies arrange private lessons at home, plus homework help, supervised study, group holiday courses and guidance services (franchise directory listings). Success Tutoring runs physical, retail-style centres on a membership model.
  • Scale: Acadomia's March 2026 press kit cites 150,000 pupils supported each year and 12,500 teachers. Franchise directories list around 110 agencies across France. Success Tutoring reported 35 Australian centres with a launch schedule for 80 more in 2023 (Franchise Executives).
  • Fees: French franchise directories quote an Acadomia entry fee of €25,000 to €50,000. Success Tutoring's structure is on its investment schedule.

Two tutoring franchise models: the home agency and the learning centre

Acadomia is the archetype of the French home-tutoring agency. A family contacts the local agency, which assesses the need, selects a tutor from its pool and organises lessons at the pupil's home. The agency then handles the administration and the follow-up. According to Acadomia's 2026 press kit, a typical tutor in its network is 39 years old, has been with Acadomia for a little over three years and supports five to six pupils. The franchisee is, in effect, running a recruitment, matching and customer-service operation for a local territory.

Success Tutoring is built around a place. A franchise partner leases a retail-style centre, fits it out to the brand's standard, recruits and trains a team of tutors and enrols families as members. Lessons follow a K–12 English and Mathematics curriculum developed by head office. The franchise partner manages a physical business with a timetable, a team and a member base that walks through the door every week.

Neither is inherently better. A home-tutoring agency has low premises costs and can serve a wide area. A centre carries rent and fit-out, but it creates visibility, a community and lesson capacity that does not depend on tutors travelling between homes.

The French tax credit and why the model matters

The single biggest structural factor in the French market is the tax credit for services at home. Under the crédit d'impôt pour l'emploi d'un salarié à domicile (article 199 sexdecies of the French tax code), families can recover 50 per cent of eligible spending on home services, including tutoring, up to an annual ceiling (French government guidance on the home employment tax credit). Since 2022 an "immediate advance" scheme has let many households pay only the net amount up front instead of waiting for their tax refund.

Acadomia makes full use of this. Its 2025 family flyer tells parents they pay only 50 per cent of the invoice thanks to the immediate advance, with the usual caveat that the terms depend on current legislation. French tutoring guides, such as Groupe Réussite's, note that the credit is aimed at private lessons given at the pupil's home.

For a prospective franchise owner this is crucial. A home-tutoring agency can price its service with the state effectively covering half. A centre-based tutoring franchise competes on other grounds: a visible location, a structured programme, a social setting and the reassurance of a team on site. If you are assessing any tutoring franchise in France, ask the franchisor and a French accountant exactly which of its services qualify for the credit.

What students get

Acadomia families get one-to-one lessons at home with a tutor matched to the pupil, and the brand offers a wider menu around that core: homework help, supervised study sessions, group holiday courses, mock exams and guidance on study choices, according to its franchise directory listings. Its scale gives it depth across subjects and levels, from primary school to higher education and exam preparation. In its own materials Acadomia describes itself as the leading educational group in France.

Success Tutoring members attend a local centre where trained tutors deliver a K–12 English and Mathematics programme. The culture is deliberately visible: bright open centres, the mascot Lucky the Kangaroo and the values Motivate, Uplift, Inspire. The brand's thesis is that children who enjoy coming to a centre stay longer and progress further. You can see the approach on our learning resources page.

What franchise partners get

Acadomia

Acadomia's franchise listings emphasise its expertise in recruiting teachers, which is the heart of a home-tutoring business: the quality of the network depends on finding, vetting and keeping good tutors. Franchisees benefit from a national brand with more than three decades of history and a head office that manages the immediate tax credit process for families. Franchise Magazine has reported that Acadomia and its sister brand Shiva are members of the Fédération Française de la Franchise. With Cinven as its new owner since October 2024, the group has private equity backing; a prospective franchisee should ask how the new ownership plans to invest in the network.

Success Tutoring

Success Tutoring sells a turnkey system packaged as the "Success Kit":

Franchise partners do not need to be teachers. Many come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business backgrounds; their experiences are in our franchise stories.

Investment and fees for each tutoring franchise

Acadomia's exact terms are only reliably available in its document d'information précontractuelle (DIP), the disclosure document French law requires. Public directories give an indication. Toute la Franchise lists an entry fee of €25,000 and a personal contribution of €30,000, and marks the ongoing royalty and advertising fee as not disclosed. L'Observatoire de la Franchise quotes an entry fee of €25,000 to €50,000 and an initial investment from about €100,000, including training, entry fee and premises set-up, with a personal contribution of around half the total. These figures differ between sources and dates, so treat them as a range to verify, not a quote.

Success Tutoring does not publish fees, royalties or set-up costs in articles; figures change and every candidate receives full disclosure before signing. The current structure is on our investment schedule, and our potential earnings page explains how to model revenue responsibly.

The cost shapes differ. A home-tutoring agency needs a modest office and spends heavily on recruiting and coordinating tutors. A learning centre needs a lease, a fit-out and a launch campaign, then runs a timetable at the centre. Compare total investment, working capital and the time each model takes to reach break-even, not just the entry fee.

French franchise law adds a useful protection. Under the Loi Doubin, now article L330-3 of the Commercial Code, a franchisor that requires exclusivity must give you the DIP and the draft contract at least 20 days before you sign or pay any deposit. Use those 20 days with a French franchise lawyer.

Markets and footprint

Acadomia is a French national network. Directory listings and an Acadomia flyer refer to about 110 centres across France, and IK Partners reported 106 agencies and around 20,000 tutors when it sold Domia Group in October 2024. Acadomia's March 2026 press kit counts 150,000 pupils a year and 12,500 teachers. Teacher figures differ by date and definition, so ask the franchisor for current numbers.

Success Tutoring is Australian-born and expanding internationally. Reported milestones include 35 Australian centres with 80 more scheduled (Franchise Executives, 2023) and territories sold in more than 100 Australian locations (Inside Small Business). The company has announced New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Canada, the United Kingdom and India as international markets. France is not among them at the time of writing (October 2026), so French investors should check available locations or enquire directly.

Who each option suits

An Acadomia franchise may suit you if you want to operate in France, you prefer a service business without a classroom to run, you enjoy recruitment and relationship management, and you value the strongest brand in French home tutoring together with the tax credit advantage.

Success Tutoring may suit you if you want to own a visible centre in your community, you prefer a membership model with a structured K–12 English and Maths programme, you come from a business rather than teaching background, and you are interested in one of the brand's announced markets. Our why invest in tutoring page sets out the market case.

Frequently asked questions

Is Acadomia a franchise?

Yes, in part. Acadomia has developed through franchised agencies since 1999 alongside its own operations, according to the ac-franchise directory. The split between franchised and company-run agencies is not published consistently, so ask for the current breakdown in the DIP.

How much does an Acadomia franchise cost?

French directories quote an entry fee of about €25,000 to €50,000 and a total initial investment from around €100,000, with royalties not publicly disclosed. Figures vary by source and may have changed; the DIP is the authoritative document.

Who owns Acadomia?

Acadomia is part of Domia Group, which private equity firm Cinven acquired from IK Partners in October 2024, according to both firms' portfolio pages. Domia Group also owns Shiva, a housekeeping services franchise.

Does the 50 per cent tax credit apply to a tutoring franchise centre?

The French home employment tax credit is designed for services provided at the family's home, which is why home-tutoring agencies feature it prominently. Eligibility depends on the service and the provider's status, so confirm it with a French accountant for any model you consider.

Can I open a Success Tutoring centre in France?

France is not one of Success Tutoring's publicly announced markets at the time of writing. Enquire directly if you are interested in the brand's international plans.

Acadomia shows how far a well-run home-tutoring agency network can go in France. A centre-based tutoring franchise offers a different business: a place, a team and a member community you own.
