Success Tutoring vs Complétude: Tutoring Franchise or Company-Run Agency? | Success Tutoring Epping (VIC) Grand Opening

If you have searched for a Complétude franchise, you have probably noticed how hard it is to find one. Complétude is one of the oldest names in French private tutoring, founded in 1984 and present across the Paris region and France's largest cities. But its public materials describe a company that runs its own agencies and matches families with tutors at home, not a tutoring franchise that sells territories to owners.

Success Tutoring is the opposite on that point: a tutoring franchise founded in Sydney in 2017 whose centres are owned and run by franchise partners. Comparing the two is therefore less about which brand has the better fee schedule and more about a basic question for any would-be owner: do you want to work inside an established tutoring company, or own a tutoring business under a franchisor's system? This guide answers that question with verified, attributed facts.

At a glance

  • Complétude: Founded in 1984 by Hervé Lecat, who still leads the company according to its Indeed company profile. It began with baccalauréat preparation courses and added home tutoring in the early 2000s (French Wikipedia).
  • Model: Local agencies select tutors and arrange private lessons at the pupil's home, with group holiday courses also offered by videoconference (Complétude partner materials).
  • Footprint: Present across Île-de-France and in the 20 largest provincial cities, with 501 to 1,000 employees, according to its Indeed profile. An older Journal des Entreprises report counted 34 cities.
  • Franchise: We found no Complétude franchise programme in its public materials or in the French franchise directories we reviewed.
  • Success Tutoring: A tutoring franchise founded in 2017 by Michael Black and franchising since around 2020, with retail-style learning centres for K–12 English and Mathematics on a membership model.

Is there a Complétude franchise?

Not that we could find. Complétude presents itself as a single company with agencies in major French cities, led by its founder for four decades. The listings we reviewed on French franchise directories cover competitors such as Acadomia, but not Complétude. If you are specifically looking for a Complétude franchise, contact the company directly to confirm; at the time of writing (October 2026), nothing public suggests that territories are offered.

That matters because the two career paths it implies are very different. Inside a company like Complétude, you would join as an employee, for example in an agency or in tutor recruitment, with a salary and a progression path. In a tutoring franchise, you invest capital, own the business, employ the team and keep what the business earns after royalties and costs.

How the two businesses work

Complétude operates as an intermediary between families and tutors. The agency identifies, selects and proposes a tutor, then monitors the teaching relationship over time. Its quality charter, published on its website, commits that a family unhappy after the first lesson will not pay the registration fee or that first lesson, and that families can change subject or tutor at any time on request. Those are strong service promises and reflect a mature, customer-focused operation.

Like other French home-tutoring providers, Complétude builds its pricing around the French tax credit for home services. Its 2024/25 partner brochure explains that the 50 per cent tax credit is deducted immediately when the family pays its invoice, whether or not the household pays income tax, and that Complétude completes the formalities on the family's behalf, including enrolment in the immediate advance scheme. The credit is set out in article 199 sexdecies of the French tax code, and Complétude notes that its terms may change with legislation.

Success Tutoring works from a place rather than a matching service. A franchise partner leases a retail-style centre, fits it out, recruits and trains tutors, and enrols families as members. Lessons follow a K–12 English and Mathematics curriculum maintained by head office, and the centre itself is part of the product: open, encouraging spaces, the mascot Lucky the Kangaroo and the values Motivate, Uplift, Inspire.

What students get

Complétude students receive one-to-one lessons at home with a tutor chosen by the agency, and families can add small-group holiday courses delivered by videoconference, according to a 2024 offer listed on a Normandy regional public-sector page. The company's long history in baccalauréat preparation means exam years are a natural strength. Families benefit from flexibility: the tutor comes to them, at a time that suits.

Success Tutoring members attend a local centre on a regular timetable. They work through a structured English and Maths programme with trained tutors, in a social setting with other students. The brand's view is that consistency and a positive environment keep children engaged for longer. Our learning resources page explains the curriculum approach.

Both are valid for families. For a prospective owner, the question is which one you can own.

What franchise partners get

Because Complétude does not advertise a franchise, there is no franchisee package to compare. Its support for tutors and staff takes the form of employment and internal processes rather than a licensed business system.

Success Tutoring provides franchise partners with a complete operating system, the "Success Kit":

  • Launch and pre-marketing support: centres sign members before opening, and centres have reported opening with 45, 55, 60 and 70+ members on day one.
  • Site selection, leasing support and fit-out support for retail-style premises.
  • Tutor recruitment and tutor training through an online franchise training platform.
  • A K–12 English and Maths curriculum and learning resources maintained by head office.
  • Ongoing marketing support and an international brand.
  • A flat structure in which franchise partners deal directly with head office leadership.

Franchise partners do not need to be teachers. Many come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business backgrounds, as our franchise stories show.

Investment and fees: a tutoring franchise versus an employer

There is no Complétude franchise fee to compare. What Complétude's public offers do give a prospective tutoring franchise owner is a picture of French pricing conventions: a registration fee (listed at €80 on the regional offer page, waived for that scheme's beneficiaries), lessons invoiced to families who then receive or are advanced the 50 per cent tax credit, and holiday courses sold as separate packages. Any business plan for tutoring in France has to account for families comparing your price with the net, after-credit price of home tutoring.

Success Tutoring does not publish fees, royalties or set-up costs in articles; the current structure is on our investment schedule, and our potential earnings page explains how to model centre revenue responsibly.

If you go on to compare franchises in France, remember the legal framework. Under the Loi Doubin, codified as article L330-3 of the French Commercial Code, a franchisor that imposes exclusivity must provide a pre-contractual disclosure document (DIP) and the draft contract at least 20 days before signing or before you pay any sum to reserve a territory. Have a French franchise lawyer review both.

Markets and footprint

Complétude is a French business focused on Île-de-France and major regional cities. Its Indeed profile describes it as France's number two tutoring organisation, with 501 to 1,000 employees and annual revenue in the €4 million to €20 million band. An older report in Le Journal des Entreprises put its presence at 34 French cities and its business volume at close to €20 million. Agency and tutor counts vary across sources and dates, so treat them as approximate.

Success Tutoring is Australian-born and expanding internationally. Reported milestones include 35 Australian centres with a launch schedule for 80 more (Franchise Executives, 2023) and franchise territories sold in more than 100 Australian locations (Inside Small Business). Its announced international markets are New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Canada, the United Kingdom and India. France is not among them at the time of writing; check available locations or enquire directly.

Who each option suits

Complétude may suit you if you want a salaried role in French education or tutoring operations with an established, founder-led company, or you are a family looking for flexible home tutoring with strong service guarantees. It is not, on public information, a route to owning a centre.

Success Tutoring may suit you if you want to own a tutoring business, you prefer a visible centre and a membership model to a matching service, you come from a business or professional background, and you are interested in one of the brand's announced markets.
