HKDSE pressure and the tutorial centre market in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's senior secondary students work towards a single public examination, the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), run by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority at the end of Secondary 6. The four core subjects are Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, and Citizenship and Social Development, and minimum core-subject results, commonly summarised as "3322", are a standard requirement for local undergraduate admission through JUPAS.
Tutorial centres are a fixture of the city, from large chains known for their star tutors to small centres above shops in residential estates. English and Mathematics sit at the heart of that demand at every stage, from primary pupils preparing for Secondary School Places Allocation to DSE candidates aiming for the grades their chosen programmes ask for.
Success Tutoring has not announced a launch in Hong Kong. We are looking for franchise partners and master franchise partners who want to run a membership-based K-12 English and Maths centre built on trained tutors, a structured curriculum and transparent progress reporting. Hong Kong has no franchise-specific legislation, but a tutorial centre that meets the thresholds in the Education Ordinance must register with the Education Bureau as a school. Tutoring franchise questions in Hong Kong
Usually, yes. Under the Education Ordinance, premises that provide tuition to 20 or more people a day, or to eight or more at any one time, must register with the Education Bureau as a private school offering non-formal curriculum. Fire safety, building and lease conditions also apply, so check the premises before you sign.
Kumon centres use a worksheet-based self-learning method, with students completing graded worksheets independently. Success Tutoring is a membership-based K-12 English and Maths programme taught by tutors in modern, retail-style centres, rather than lecture-style classes built around a star tutor.
