Chittagong, officially Chattogram, is Bangladesh's main seaport and its second city. Its economy runs on shipping, trade and industry, and it has a large professional class whose children study in competitive Bangla-medium and English-medium schools. For investors looking at a tutoring franchise in Chittagong, the attraction is a market with deep demand for tutoring but far fewer structured, branded options than Dhaka.
Success Tutoring does not yet operate in Bangladesh. We are looking for franchise partners in Chittagong and a master franchise partner for the country. Territories are not drawn yet; they are mapped with each partner around local neighbourhoods.
Schools and exams in Chittagong
The Chittagong Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education runs the SSC (after Class 10) and HSC (after Class 12) exams for schools and colleges across the division, using the national curriculum set by the NCTB. Results, especially the number of GPA-5 grades, are published and discussed widely, and some of the city's government and cadet schools are among the most sought after in the country.
Alongside them, a growing English-medium sector prepares students for Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel O levels and A levels, sat through the British Council. Families in this stream are often aiming for universities in the UK, Malaysia, Australia or North America. Chittagong also has a sizeable madrasa sector.
Higher education gives older students another target: the University of Chittagong, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Chittagong Medical College are all competitive, and their admission tests drive a lot of private coaching.
What drives tutoring demand here
Chittagong families share the national habit of paying for after-school help, but the local market has some features of its own:
- Fewer quality options. Many leading coaching brands are concentrated in Dhaka, so Chittagong parents often rely on individual home tutors with little oversight.
- Professional families. Port, logistics, banking and industrial jobs support a middle class that values English and Maths and is often willing to pay for consistent support.
- Diaspora links. Families with relatives working in the Gulf or abroad often put extra emphasis on English.
- Admission test competition. Entry to engineering, medical and public universities is tight, and students start preparing years early.
A centre that offers small groups, trained tutors, a set curriculum and visible progress reporting would stand out.
Neighbourhoods with potential
The city stretches along the Karnaphuli River towards the coast and the hills. Areas worth considering for a centre include:
- Khulshi and Nasirabad, well-established residential areas with many schools and higher-income families.
- Panchlaish and GEC Circle, central districts with clinics, schools and busy commercial streets.
- Agrabad, the commercial and banking centre, with surrounding residential neighbourhoods.
- Halishahar and Chandgaon, large residential areas with many young families.
- Patenga and the areas near the port and airport, linked to the city's ongoing infrastructure projects.
Boundaries in Chittagong would be agreed with the partner using population, schools and the coaching providers already operating nearby, and each territory would have one owner.
The Success Tutoring model
Success Tutoring was founded in Western Sydney in 2017 and franchises centres across Australia. Its model differs from a typical Chittagong coaching centre in three ways. Families join as members rather than buying a batch of classes. Sessions follow a structured program rather than a teacher's personal notes. And parents receive regular progress updates, which can help build trust over time.
For a partner in the port city, support may cover the operating system and Success Kit, help securing and fitting out a centre, tutor recruitment and training delivered online, learning resources, and help planning local marketing before and after opening, with ongoing support from head office. Those support terms are written into the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.
Partners do not need to be teachers. Someone with a background in business, banking or trade, and a network in the city, would be well placed.
Frequently asked questions
Why open in Chittagong rather than Dhaka?
Dhaka has more families, but also more established coaching brands. Chittagong has strong demand and fewer structured providers, which can make it easier for a well-run centre to become the local name parents trust.
Can a centre serve SSC, HSC and O level students together?
In many cases, yes. Tutors adapt the work to each student's year level and exam pathway, and the student mix for a Chittagong centre would be planned with the partner.
What legal rules apply to a franchise in Bangladesh?
Bangladesh has no franchise-specific disclosure law, so franchise agreements are governed by contract and company law, and cross-border payments may involve central bank rules. Seek independent legal advice in Bangladesh before signing.
