Leaving Cert points and the grinds market in Ireland
Ireland has a long tradition of grinds, and much of it is driven by two State examinations. Students sit the Junior Cycle examinations, still widely called the Junior Cert, around the age of 15, and the Leaving Certificate at the end of sixth year. Both are run by the State Examinations Commission, and Leaving Cert grades are converted into CAO points that decide college places. Under the CAO scheme, students who achieve H6 or better in Higher Level Mathematics receive 25 bonus points, which keeps demand for Maths support high from first year onwards.
English and Maths are taken by almost every Leaving Cert student, and many families book weekly grinds or Easter revision courses as June approaches. The Department of Education's Senior Cycle redevelopment is also adding additional assessment components to Leaving Cert subjects in phases, so parents increasingly want steady support across the school year rather than last-minute cramming.
Success Tutoring has not announced a launch in Ireland. We are looking for franchise partners and master franchise partners who want to bring a membership-based K-12 English and Maths centre, run by trained tutors, to Irish towns and cities. Not yet. Ireland is a market where we are inviting franchise partners and master franchise partners, and no Irish centres have been announced. Early partners would work directly with head office leadership on territory planning, premises and pre-launch marketing. Tell us which county or town you have in mind through available locations.
Both brands support school-age children, but the models are different. Kumon is built around a worksheet-based self-learning method that students work through at their own pace. Success Tutoring is a membership-based K-12 programme in English and Maths, taught by tutors in modern, retail-style centres. Commercial rents in Dublin, Cork or Galway are very different from those in a smaller county town, so the total depends on where you open. We do not quote figures in these answers. The investment schedule is the place to start, and our team can take you through it once you make an enquiry.
Yes. The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 require Garda vetting for people whose work involves regular access to children. A centre would arrange vetting through a registered organisation, alongside our tutor recruitment and tutor training support.
