Lusaka is Zambia's capital and its fastest-growing city, home to government, most of the country's corporate head offices and a large share of its professional families. Schools here are going through the biggest changes in a generation: free education has brought many more learners into classrooms, and a new curriculum is restructuring how long children spend in each phase and when they sit national exams. For anyone considering a tutoring franchise in Lusaka, those changes have created clear demand for reliable help with English and Mathematics.
Success Tutoring has no centre in Zambia. It is seeking franchise partners in Lusaka, and a master franchise partner for the country, with territories drawn together with partners.
Exams and reform in Zambia
The Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) sets national exams. Under the system most learners in school today still follow, those are the Grade 7 composite examination, the Grade 9 junior secondary examination and the Grade 12 School Certificate, which decides entry to universities and colleges. A credit in English and Mathematics is a common entry requirement.
The Zambia Education Curriculum Framework 2023 is changing that structure. According to Ministry of Education statements reported in the Zambian press:
- The system moves to three years of early childhood education, six years of primary, four years of ordinary secondary (Forms 1 to 4) and two years of advanced secondary (Forms 5 and 6).
- The junior secondary exam is being discontinued, and ordinary-level certification moves to the end of Form 4.
- School-based assessment will sit alongside exams, in a more competence-based curriculum.
- Rollout began in 2025, and 2028 is expected to be a double year when old and new cohorts sit exams at the same time.
Timelines can shift, so partners would track ECZ and Ministry announcements closely.
Lusaka's schools and families
Lusaka has the country's widest choice of schools: large government schools, grant-aided church schools, a growing number of private schools following the Zambian curriculum, and international schools offering Cambridge IGCSE, A Levels or the IB to Zambian and expatriate families. The University of Zambia is based in Lusaka, and its entry requirements are the goal for many families.
Since the government introduced free education in 2022, enrolment has risen sharply. Larger classes mean less individual attention for each learner, and parents who can afford it are turning to after-school support.
Why demand is rising in the capital
- Bigger classes. More learners per teacher in government schools leave gaps that families want to fill.
- A new curriculum. Parents who learned under the old system are supporting children on new syllabuses and assessment styles.
- Two systems running at once. Until the transition is complete, old and new cohorts are taught side by side, adding uncertainty.
- Credits that open doors. English and Mathematics credits remain central to further study, so these are the first subjects families invest in.
- A growing middle class. Lusaka's professional households, many in government, banking, mining head offices and NGOs, are used to paying for quality education.
Neighbourhoods to explore
No territories have been drawn in Zambia yet. Areas a Lusaka partner might discuss with head office include:
- Kabulonga, Ibex Hill and Leopards Hill, established eastern suburbs with many professional families and private schools.
- Woodlands, Chalala and Chilenje, large family neighbourhoods to the south-east.
- Roma, Rhodes Park and Olympia, central and northern areas near the University of Zambia and key schools.
- Meanwood, New Kasama and Silverest, newer developments on the city's edges where young families are moving.
- Makeni and Chilanga to the south, growing residential areas.
- Matero, Chelstone and Kalingalinga, densely populated communities where accessible extra lessons would reach many learners.
Lusaka's traffic, especially on Great East Road and Kafue Road, makes a nearby centre valuable, so territories follow real travel catchments.
Running a Success Tutoring centre in Lusaka
A Lusaka centre would run as a membership business, with learners attending each week and parents receiving regular updates. Head office support may include the Success Kit and systems, help with premises and fit-out, tutor recruitment and online training, learning resources and a structured program, and launch and marketing support around opening, all as set out in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents. The brand was founded in Sydney in 2017.
You do not need to be a teacher. A master franchise partner would also plan territories across Zambia, from Lusaka to the Copperbelt towns of Kitwe and Ndola and to Livingstone.
Frequently asked questions
How would the programme handle the curriculum transition?
Tutors work on the core skills that syllabuses draw on, and a Zambian partner would work with head office on supporting learners in both the old grade structure and the new form structure as ECZ assessments change.
Is there a franchise law in Zambia?
Zambia has no franchise-specific statute. Franchise agreements rely on contract, intellectual property and competition law, and companies register with PACRA. Seek independent legal advice from a Zambian lawyer before signing anything.
Can a Lusaka centre serve international school students?
It can. Sessions are built around each learner's level, whether they follow the Zambian curriculum, IGCSE or IB.
