Two milestones shape how Israeli families think about learning support. The first is the Bagrut, the matriculation certificate awarded by the Ministry of Education. Mathematics and English are both compulsory Bagrut subjects, studied at 3, 4 or 5 study units (yehidot limud), and the level a student reaches affects which university programmes are open to them later. Deciding whether a teenager can sit 5-unit maths is a conversation many families start years before high school.
The second is the Psychometric Entrance Test, set by the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation (NITE) and used alongside Bagrut results for university admission. It includes verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and English sections, so strong maths and English foundations carry well beyond school. Preparation courses for the psychometric are a well-established part of the education market, alongside private tutors and online lessons.
