Territory data last updated .
The Chandigarh Tricity is three cities that function as one: Chandigarh itself, a union territory and the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana; Mohali, officially Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, in Punjab; and Panchkula, in Haryana. Together they make up a planned, green and highly educated urban area at the foot of the Shivalik hills. Success Tutoring has not yet mapped territories here and is seeking partners to open a tutoring franchise in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula, with weekly after-school support for students from kindergarten to Class 12. Territories are drawn up with each partner.
A planned city with a professional workforce
Chandigarh was designed in the 1950s by Le Corbusier as a city of numbered sectors, each meant to have its own schools, markets and green spaces. That grid still shapes daily life: parents talk about schools and tuition by sector number, and a short drive across sectors is part of most family routines.
The Tricity's economy is built on government, education, health care and services. Two state secretariats, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, PGIMER, Panjab University and research institutes such as IISER Mohali employ large numbers of civil servants, doctors, academics and lawyers. Mohali has added an IT and start-up economy, and the armed forces have a strong presence at Chandimandir near Panchkula. The result is a population of salaried professionals with high expectations for their children's education.
Three education systems in one urban area
Because the Tricity crosses three jurisdictions, families deal with three sets of rules:
- Chandigarh has no school board of its own. Its government schools, including the Government Model Senior Secondary Schools found across its sectors, are affiliated to CBSE, as are most private schools.
- Mohali is home to the headquarters of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), which runs Class 10 and Class 12 exams for Punjab's government and many private schools. The city's newer private schools are mostly CBSE or ICSE.
- Panchkula falls under Haryana, where the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) sets state exams, alongside a large number of CBSE schools in the sectors.
Well-established convent and public schools, many in central Chandigarh, are heavily sought after, and families often move house to be near one. Students sit Class 10 and Class 12 board exams, then compete through JEE, NEET and CUET. NEP 2020 has added attention to foundational skills in the primary years.
Why Tricity families use tutoring
Chandigarh has long been a coaching destination for the wider region. Sector 34 in particular is known for coaching institutes for entrance exams, government recruitment and English language tests, with many students from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Migration and study abroad are common aspirations across Punjab, so strong English is highly valued.
For younger children, the picture is different. Parents mostly rely on home tutors or small private batches in their sector, with little consistency in quality or reporting. Professionals working in government, hospitals and IT parks have limited time to help with homework and want a dependable, nearby centre. Families speak Punjabi, Hindi and English, often all three, and many want their children confident in English before the board years.
Where young families are settling
Chandigarh proper has little room left to grow, so most new housing is on its edges:
- Southern Chandigarh sectors such as 40 to 50 and the Manimajra area, older but dense and family-oriented.
- Mohali's phases and newer sectors, with growth along the Airport Road towards Aerocity and IT City.
- Kharar and New Chandigarh (Mullanpur), where large apartment projects attract first-time buyers.
- Zirakpur, on the highway towards Ambala, one of the fastest-built residential areas in the region.
- Panchkula's sectors on both sides of the Ghaggar river, plus Mansa Devi Complex and Pinjore further out.
Each of these areas has many schools, active residents' associations and market streets suitable for a shopfront centre.
Becoming a Success Tutoring partner in the Tricity
Success Tutoring, founded in Sydney in 2017, has announced India as an international market. A partner here would help introduce the brand to the region.
Support that may be provided includes site selection, leasing and fit-out assistance; tutor recruitment and training through an online platform; learning resources; and launch and ongoing marketing support. What is actually provided is set out in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.
You do not need to be a teacher. Partners have come from corporate, engineering, finance and business backgrounds, the kind of professionals the Tricity has in large numbers.
Frequently asked questions
Does it matter whether a centre opens in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula?
It matters for leasing, local registration and the boards your students attend, since each city sits in a different jurisdiction. Students commute easily across the Tricity, but a territory is drawn around the families nearest the centre.
Can one centre serve PSEB, BSEH and CBSE students?
Yes. Tutors start from where each child is, whichever board their school follows.
How is this different from the coaching institutes in Sector 34?
Those institutes mostly prepare older students for entrance and recruitment exams. Success Tutoring works with school-age children on regular skill-building, well before that stage.
Which laws apply to a franchise in the Tricity?
India has no franchise-specific law, so a franchise agreement is governed by general law, including the Indian Contract Act 1872. Local rules can differ between the Chandigarh administration, Punjab and Haryana, so seek independent legal advice for the city you choose.
