Mumbai is one of the first Indian cities where Success Tutoring has drawn franchise territories. The brand, founded in Sydney in 2017, has announced India as one of its international markets, and its first mapped territories sit in the dense, education-focused neighbourhoods of South and Central Mumbai. A tutoring franchise in Mumbai with Success Tutoring is not another entrance-exam coaching class. It is a membership-based centre that builds English and Mathematics foundations for school students, from the early years to Class 12.
Mumbai's school boards and pressure points
Mumbai has one of the widest mixes of school boards of any Indian city:
- Maharashtra State Board (MSBSHSE) schools, including many run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, which prepare students for the SSC in Class 10 and the HSC in Class 12.
- CBSE schools, which from 2026 hold Class 10 board exams in two phases, with an optional second sitting to improve scores.
- ICSE and ISC schools under the CISCE, a long tradition in South Mumbai, where well-known schools such as Cathedral and John Connon School in Fort have educated generations of families.
- International schools offering the IB and Cambridge IGCSE, concentrated in South Mumbai, Bandra-Kurla Complex and the western suburbs.
Under the Maharashtra government's language policy, Marathi is taught across boards, so many Mumbai children learn three languages at school. English and Mathematics remain the subjects that parents worry about most, because they feed directly into board results and later choices about science and commerce streams.
Why Mumbai families invest in tutoring
Tuition is woven into Mumbai life. Many children attend classes from primary school, and by Class 9 coaching is close to universal in many neighbourhoods. Much of the market is either informal (a teacher in a neighbourhood flat) or focused on JEE, NEET and board-exam batches. Families of younger students have fewer structured options: they want consistent, well-run sessions that build reading, writing and number skills, with regular feedback, not a crowded batch.
That is where Success Tutoring fits. Children join as members and come in every week for English and Maths at a street-level centre. Mumbai's dense housing societies run heavily on word of mouth, which is worth bearing in mind when planning how a new centre introduces itself locally.
The South and Central Mumbai territories
The current territories are in the island city:
- Fort and Marine Drive, the historic business district and the Queen's Necklace, with old apartment buildings, offices and some of the city's oldest schools.
- Malabar Hill, one of Mumbai's most established residential areas, with families who place a high value on education.
- Byculla East and Lalbaug, in the former mill district of Girangaon, where mill land has been redeveloped into residential towers alongside long-standing chawl communities.
- Antop Hill, near Wadala and Sion, where new housing and the Wadala development area are bringing more families into Central Mumbai.
- Lower Parel is currently reserved.
Beyond the island city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region keeps growing outward: Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Borivali, Bhayandar and Airoli are home to millions of young families, and infrastructure such as the Atal Setu sea bridge and the new Navi Mumbai International Airport is pulling growth eastwards. Success Tutoring draws further territories with partners as the market develops. For the wider state, see the Maharashtra page.
Running a Success Tutoring centre in Mumbai
Space is the hardest part of opening anything in South Mumbai, so site and lease support matter. Head office can help there and with the fit-out, and support may extend to hiring tutors and training them online, learning resources and a structured program, and launch and marketing support for a new centre. Partners have ongoing support from the Success Tutoring team; the support provided is set out in the franchise agreement.
You need not be an educator. Bankers, consultants, engineers and small-business owners fit the partner profile, and Mumbai has plenty of each.
Frequently asked questions
Is Success Tutoring a JEE or NEET coaching franchise?
No. Success Tutoring focuses on school-level English and Mathematics from the early years to Class 12. Strong foundations help students in board exams and later entrance exams, but the centres are not entrance-exam coaching institutes.
Which boards does a Mumbai centre support?
Students come from State Board, CBSE, ICSE and international schools. Each student's programme is built around their level and goals in English and Maths rather than one board's textbook.
Do the 2024 coaching centre guidelines apply to a tutoring centre in Mumbai?
Possibly. The 2024 central guidelines target coaching institutes and include an under-16 enrolment bar, and Maharashtra decides how they are enforced. A Mumbai lawyer can confirm the position for a centre teaching school-age children; get that advice before signing.
Is a franchise in Mumbai protected by a disclosure law?
No. India has no franchise statute or compulsory disclosure document, so ask for everything you need and have an Indian lawyer and chartered accountant review the agreement.
