Success Tutoring vs Club Z! Tutoring: Center-Based or In-Home Tutoring Franchise?
Club Z! is a home-based tutoring franchise that sends tutors to students' homes or online. Success Tutoring runs membership-based learning centers. Here is how the two models compare for a franchise buyer.

Club Z! In-Home and Online Tutoring and Success Tutoring sit at opposite ends of the tutoring franchise spectrum. Club Z! is a low-overhead, home-based franchise: the owner recruits tutors and matches them with families, and the tutoring happens in the student's home or online. Success Tutoring is a retail-style learning center franchise where families join as members and attend a physical center each week.
Both models are proven. Club Z! has been franchising since 1998 and reports several hundred territories. Success Tutoring has grown from a single Sydney center in 2017 to an international franchise now launching in Texas and Canada. This guide sets out how the two differ so you can decide which tutoring franchise matches your capital, your market and your appetite for running a physical location.
At a glance
- Club Z!: founded in 1995 in Tampa, Florida; franchising since 1998, according to franchise directories. One-on-one in-home and online tutoring in all subjects for pre-K to 12, plus SAT and ACT prep. Operated from a home office with no retail premises.
- Success Tutoring: founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2017 by Michael Black; franchising since around 2020. K-12 English and math delivered in physical learning centers under a membership model. US launch in Dallas, Texas, with a plan of 80 Texas units in five years; Canada launch planned for 2026.
- Footprint: directories drawing on Club Z!'s 2024 and 2026 FDDs list between roughly 310 and 350 franchised territories. Success Tutoring reported 35 Australian centers with a launch schedule for 80 more in 2023, plus territories sold in more than 100 Australian locations.
- Fees: Club Z!'s initial franchise fee is reported at US$27,250 to US$39,750 (2024 FDD, via Franzy), with a total investment of about US$41,000 to US$57,000. Success Tutoring's figures are on its investment schedule page.
Two very different tutoring franchise models
Club Z!'s model is built on asset-light operations. A franchisee runs the business from home, recruits independent tutors, markets locally, takes enquiries, and matches tutors to students. According to BizBuySell, franchise owners match tutors with students for sessions in the student's home or online. There is no lease, no fit-out and no center staff. Franchise Overview lists the territory as protected and notes an owner-operator requirement.
Success Tutoring runs the opposite play. Each franchise partner opens a retail-style center with a lease, a fit-out and a team of tutors who deliver sessions on site. Families join as members, which gives the center recurring weekly revenue instead of one-off bookings. The curriculum is concentrated on K-12 English and mathematics.
The economic trade-off is straightforward. Club Z! has a lower entry cost and lower fixed costs but relies on the owner's ability to recruit and retain a dispersed tutor workforce and to win each new student individually. A center model carries rent and payroll, but it builds a visible local brand, a shared learning environment and a membership base that compounds over time. Success Tutoring centers have opened with 45, 55, 60 and 70+ members already signed before opening day, according to Success Tutoring news posts, because the franchisor runs pre-launch marketing.
What students get
Club Z!'s breadth is its selling point. Franchise listings describe one-on-one tutoring in all academic subjects from pre-K through grade 12, test preparation for the SAT and ACT, and online tutoring. Because sessions take place in the home or online, families get convenience and scheduling flexibility, and a tutor can be matched to a very specific need, such as AP chemistry or a particular foreign language.
Success Tutoring students get a structured program in English and math, delivered in a purpose-designed center with consistent weekly attendance. The environment matters: students see peers working, tutors can collaborate, and the center team tracks progress across the membership rather than one household at a time. The brand values, Motivate, Uplift, Inspire, and the mascot Lucky the Kangaroo are part of how centers engage younger students. Success Tutoring also published the Australian National Learning Insights Report 2024, and its learning resources are developed centrally for all centers.
If the family you are picturing wants a tutor at the kitchen table for one subject, Club Z! serves that well. If they want their child in a routine at a local center with a consistent program, that is the Success Tutoring proposition.
What franchise partners get
Club Z! provides training, marketing systems, a tutor recruitment framework and brand materials, according to its franchise listings. Because there is no physical site, the onboarding is quicker and the support is focused on lead generation, tutor sourcing and matching.
Success Tutoring provides a turnkey center system it calls the "Success Kit". The components a buyer should look at include:
- Launch and pre-marketing support to sign members before the center opens.
- Site selection, leasing support and fit-out support for the retail-style center.
- Tutor recruitment and tutor training through an online franchise training platform.
- Centrally developed K-12 English and math curriculum and ongoing marketing support.
Success Tutoring describes its model as "flat": franchise partners deal directly with head office leadership. Many of its partners come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business backgrounds rather than teaching, as its franchise stories show. Club Z! similarly does not require a teaching background.
One structural note: with a home-based franchise, the owner is the business. With a center franchise, the owner builds a team and a location that can run with a center manager over time. That affects how you think about your own hours and about resale value.
Tutoring franchise investment and fees
Here is the public record for Club Z!, with sources:
- Initial franchise fee of US$27,250 to US$39,750, per Franzy citing the 2024 FDD. Older directory listings show US$19,750, so the fee has evidently increased over time.
- Total initial investment of roughly US$40,975 to US$57,425, per SharpSheets' analysis of the FDD, with similar ranges on other directories.
- Royalty of 6 to 8 percent of gross sales, subject to a monthly minimum of US$450 to US$550 depending on territory population and sales volume, plus a marketing fund of the greater of 2 percent or US$50 a month, according to Franchise Overview.
These are among the lowest entry figures in the tutoring franchise category, which is consistent with a home-based model. Confirm Items 5 to 7 of the current FDD before relying on them.
Success Tutoring does not publish its fees in articles. The investment schedule sets out the current US and Canadian figures, and the potential earnings page explains how membership revenue builds. Expect a center model to require more capital than a home-based model; what you are buying with that capital is a location, a brand presence and recurring membership income.
Markets and footprint
Club Z! is a US franchise system with several hundred territories. Franzy lists 348 locations based on the 2024 FDD, BizBuySell lists 312, and a 2026 FDD-based summary reports 328, all franchised. The brand is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Because territories are defined by population rather than retail sites, many markets are already allocated.
Success Tutoring is an international brand that entered the US in Dallas, Texas, with a stated plan of 80 units across Texas in five years. It has announced a 2026 launch in Canada with a goal of 120 units by 2029, and it also operates or has announced markets in New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom and India. For buyers in Texas or Canada, that means early territory selection; see available locations.

Who each option suits
Club Z! suits you if:
- You want the lowest possible entry cost and no lease.
- You are comfortable being the primary salesperson and tutor coordinator in your territory.
- You want to offer every subject and grade rather than specialize.
- You prefer a US-only system with a long franchising history.
Success Tutoring suits you if:
- You want a physical center that becomes a visible local brand.
- You want recurring membership revenue and a pre-marketed opening.
- You want a focused K-12 English and math product with central curriculum support.
- You want to be an early partner in Texas or Canada with direct access to franchisor leadership.
Neither is better in the abstract. A home-based franchise is a sensible way into the industry with limited capital. A center franchise is a bigger commitment that builds a different kind of asset.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Club Z! tutoring franchise cost?
Directories citing Club Z!'s 2024 FDD report an initial franchise fee of US$27,250 to US$39,750 and a total investment of about US$41,000 to US$57,000. Royalties are reported at 6 to 8 percent of gross sales with monthly minimums. Check the current FDD.
Is an in-home tutoring franchise or a center-based tutoring franchise more profitable?
It depends on execution and market. Home-based models have lower fixed costs but revenue scales with the owner's ability to place tutors one family at a time. Center models carry rent and payroll but can build recurring membership income and a team-run operation. Review each franchisor's Item 19 disclosures and, for Success Tutoring, the potential earnings page.
Does Club Z! have physical centers?
Its core model is in-home and online tutoring run from a home office. Franchise listings note small-group and online programs in select locations, but the brand does not describe a retail center model.
Is Success Tutoring available in the US and Canada?
Yes. Success Tutoring launched in Dallas, Texas, with a plan of 80 units across Texas in five years, and has announced a 2026 launch in Canada with a goal of 120 units by 2029.
