Amarillo sits at the crossroads of Interstate 40 and Interstate 27, roughly in the middle of the Texas Panhandle. People from Dumas, Hereford, Pampa and Borger come here for hospitals, shopping and college. For anyone weighing a tutoring franchise in Amarillo, that matters: the city has around 200,000 residents according to the US Census Bureau, and it serves a much wider region with few dedicated learning centers.

Success Tutoring launched in the United States in Texas, starting in Dallas, and is now looking for franchise partners in other Texas cities. No territories have been drawn in Amarillo yet. They are mapped together with a partner, based on where families live and where a center would be easiest to reach.

A city split across two counties

Amarillo straddles Potter County to the north and Randall County to the south, and the line between them shapes much of local life. Older neighborhoods such as Wolflin, the Medical Center area and the streets around San Jacinto lie in the central city. Most new family housing has gone up in Randall County and on the far west side, in areas such as The Colonies, Greenways, Heritage Hills and the subdivisions off Soncy Road, Hillside Road and Coulter Street.

The economy is steady rather than flashy. Beef processing and the feedyards around the city, BNSF rail, Bell Textron's aircraft assembly plant and the Pantex Plant northeast of town all employ large workforces. The BSA and Northwest Texas hospital systems, the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center campus and its School of Veterinary Medicine add a professional layer.

Schools in Amarillo and Canyon

Two districts cover most of the city:

  • Amarillo ISD serves the central, north and east parts of town, with high schools including Amarillo High, Caprock, Palo Duro and Tascosa. It is one of the larger districts in West Texas and enrolls a high share of English learners, partly because Amarillo has long been a resettlement city for refugee families from Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
  • Canyon ISD reaches north from Canyon into south and southwest Amarillo. Its newest high school, West Plains, opened in 2020 to absorb growth on that side of the city, alongside Randall High and Canyon High.

Bushland ISD to the west and smaller districts such as River Road and Highland Park round out the area. Private choices include Ascension Academy, Holy Cross Catholic Academy and several Christian schools, and Amarillo Collegiate Academy runs as a public charter.

All of these schools follow the state curriculum overseen by the Texas Education Agency, and every public campus receives a letter grade from A to F each year. Students sit STAAR tests from grade 3 and must pass end-of-course exams such as Algebra I and English II to graduate. State lawmakers voted in 2025 to replace STAAR with shorter tests spread through the year from 2027–28, so Panhandle parents will be getting used to a new kind of report.

Why Amarillo parents look for extra help

Families settling into new subdivisions. Fast growth in Canyon ISD has meant new campuses and redrawn attendance boundaries. Children changing schools often need help finding their feet in reading and math.

English learners and newcomer families. Students who arrived in Amarillo speaking Burmese, Swahili, Arabic, Spanish or another language can make quick progress in conversation but still need support with academic reading and writing.

College credit before graduation. Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University in Canyon both offer dual credit, and students generally need to show college readiness, usually on the TSIA2, before they can enroll. Parents who want their children to start college with credits banked tend to plan early.

Long commutes and shift work. Plant, hospital and rail jobs often mean early starts or rotating shifts. A consistent after-school routine at a center close to home is valuable to those households.

Where a center could fit

Families do most of their shopping along a handful of corridors: Soncy Road and the area around Westgate Mall, 45th Avenue, the I-27 frontage south toward Hillside Road, and Georgia Street. Retail strips near new schools on the southwest side are close to the homes with the most school-age children. Canyon, about 15 miles south, shares a school district with south Amarillo.

What a Success Tutoring partner does

A partner owns and runs a retail-style learning center, hires and leads the tutor team, and builds relationships with local schools and families. Support that may be offered covers site selection and leasing, fit-out, tutor recruitment and training, learning resources, marketing and opening support, with continuing help from head office. The exact scope is set out in the franchise agreement and Franchise Disclosure Document.

You do not need to have been a teacher. Many partners have backgrounds in business, engineering, finance or management. Amarillo College and West Texas A&M, which trains many of the region's teachers, are useful places to look for tutors.

Frequently asked questions

Are there Success Tutoring territories in Amarillo yet?

Not yet. Amarillo is a market where the brand is seeking a partner, and territories are drawn with that partner. The cities listed on this page are indicative opportunity areas.

Would a center here include Canyon families?

Territory boundaries are set during the application process and recorded in the franchise agreement. Canyon and south Amarillo share a school district, so it is a sensible conversation to have early.

What legal steps apply to buying a franchise in Texas?

The Federal Trade Commission's Franchise Rule means you must receive the Franchise Disclosure Document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Texas has no franchise registration law of its own. Seek independent legal advice before committing.

Is the Panhandle economy stable enough for a tutoring business?

Amarillo's mix of agriculture, manufacturing, health care and federal work spreads the risk across several industries.

To keep exploring, read the Texas overview, see what the process involves, or review the investment schedule.
