The Sunshine Coast used to be where Brisbane families went on holiday. Now it is where many of them move. The region stretches from Caloundra in the south to Noosa in the north, and it has become one of the fastest-growing parts of Queensland, with whole new towns being built from scratch. For a tutoring franchise on the Sunshine Coast, the appeal is simple: a large and growing number of young families, many of them new to the area and to Queensland schools, and relatively few dedicated tutoring centres.
Schooling on the Sunshine Coast
Sunshine Coast students follow the Queensland curriculum, overseen by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA), from Prep through to Year 12, when they complete the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). NAPLAN is sat in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Senior students earn an ATAR through a combination of school assessment and QCAA external exams.
The region has a strong mix of school types. Large state high schools serve each part of the coast, and state colleges such as Chancellor State College at Sippy Downs run from Prep to Year 12. The independent and faith-based sector is significant too, with schools such as Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim, Siena Catholic College, St Andrew's Anglican College in Peregian Springs and a number of Christian colleges. The University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) at Sippy Downs anchors the area's education and research sector and supplies a pool of potential tutors.
Why Sunshine Coast families look for tutoring
The Sunshine Coast's population is unusually mobile. Families arrive from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and overseas, and children often need help adjusting to a new school and a different curriculum sequence. Parents also want their children ready for the QCE, where external exams carry real weight in most General subjects.
Work patterns matter too. Many parents work in health, construction, tourism or their own small businesses, often with variable hours. A centre that offers regular, scheduled sessions gives their children a consistent routine and gives parents peace of mind. And in a region where the nearest specialist service can be a long drive away, a local, in-person option is valued.
Where the growth is
Caloundra and the south
Caloundra is the southern gateway to the coast. To its west, Aura at Caloundra South is one of the largest master-planned communities in Queensland, planned to house tens of thousands of people when complete, with new schools opening as it grows. Caloundra West, Pelican Waters and Little Mountain are already family-heavy suburbs. A planned rail link between Beerwah and Caloundra is expected to improve access to Brisbane over time.
The central coast: Buddina, Buderim and Maroochydore
Buddina and the coastal suburbs around Kawana Waters are home to established families and the Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya. Buderim, on the hill above Maroochydore, has some of the region's highest household incomes and several popular schools. Maroochydore is being redeveloped with a new city centre, adding jobs and housing. Palmview, near Sippy Downs, is another fast-growing new community.
Pacific Paradise and the north
Pacific Paradise, Mudjimba, Marcoola and the suburbs near the Sunshine Coast Airport sit between Maroochydore and Coolum, with a mix of families and retirees. Further north, Noosa and the hinterland towns draw families who want space and a quieter lifestyle.
The map on this page shows which territories are open. Each is drawn around a catchment of households and school-age children.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Sunshine Coast too spread out for one tutoring centre?
The region is spread along the coast, which is why it is divided into several territories. Each one is built around a local catchment of families who would naturally shop and go to school in that area.
Do new communities like Aura have enough families yet?
New communities can grow quickly, and young families are often among the first to arrive. The map's territory data shows residents, school-age children and schools for each area, so you can judge the catchment for yourself.
Can I combine a Sunshine Coast centre with a lifestyle move?
Many people do, but owning a centre is a real business that needs your time, especially in the first year. We are open about the commitment during the process.
What rules apply when buying a franchise in Australia?
Franchising is governed by the Franchising Code of Conduct, enforced by the ACCC, which requires disclosure before you sign. Always get independent legal and financial advice.
