Kansas does not usually come up first in conversations about tutoring, but it should. Johnson County, on the Kansas side of the Kansas City metro, has some of the most sought-after suburban school districts in the Midwest and keeps adding new subdivisions and schools. Wichita is the state's largest city, with its own suburbs growing around it. A tutoring franchise in Kansas would serve families who take school seriously and currently have few structured, membership-based options.

Success Tutoring launched in the US in Texas and is expanding into new states. No Kansas territories have been mapped yet, so partners here would be among the first in the state and would help decide where territories are drawn.

The Kansas education system

Public schools in Kansas are overseen by the Kansas State Board of Education and the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). The state's vision, branded Kansans Can, emphasizes academic preparation alongside career readiness, graduation and postsecondary success.

Students sit the Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) tests in English language arts and math in grades 3 to 8 and grade 10, with science in grades 5, 8 and 11. KAP results are reported on four performance levels, and the state has been open about the share of students scoring below grade level since the pandemic. That public conversation has made many parents more aware of where their own child sits.

Kansas organizes schools into unified school districts (USDs), and the district names carry weight:

  • Blue Valley, Olathe, Shawnee Mission, De Soto and Spring Hill in Johnson County.
  • Wichita Public Schools (USD 259), the largest district in the state, with suburban districts including Andover, Maize, Derby and Goddard.
  • Lawrence, Manhattan-Ogden and Topeka in the college and capital towns.

Why Kansas families use tutoring

Families in Johnson County often move there specifically for the schools, and they expect their children to keep pace with high-achieving classmates. Advanced math tracks and honors courses start early, and parents want children ready.

Elsewhere in the state, the drivers are different but just as real:

  • Reading progress in early grades, which Kansas has made a policy focus through its literacy initiatives.
  • Recovery in math, where KAP results have shown many students still behind grade level.
  • College readiness, with many Kansas students taking the ACT for admission and scholarships at the University of Kansas, Kansas State and Wichita State.
  • Working families who need a reliable, supervised place for children after school.

Success Tutoring's weekly membership model, in English and math from kindergarten to grade 12, gives families consistency rather than short-term fixes.

Where a center could work in Kansas

Territories are drawn with partners using census data on households, school-age children and schools. The areas we would look at first:

  • Johnson County: Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood and the southern growth areas toward Spring Hill, Gardner and De Soto, where a large battery manufacturing plant has added new jobs and housing demand.
  • Wyandotte County: Kansas City, Kansas, and the growing areas around the Legends in western Wyandotte County.
  • Wichita and Sedgwick County: west and east Wichita, plus Andover, Maize, Derby and Goddard.
  • College and capital towns: Lawrence, Manhattan and Topeka.

The Kansas City metro straddles the state line; see the Kansas City page for the metro view.

What partners get

Success Tutoring was founded in Sydney in 2017 and has built a network of membership-based centers across Australia, with international expansion including New Zealand and the United States. For Kansas partners, support may cover site selection and leasing, fit-out, tutor recruitment and training through the online franchise training platform, learning resources and a structured program, and launch marketing in Overland Park, Wichita or wherever the first territory falls. The franchise agreement and disclosure documents set out exactly what is provided.

You do not need to be a teacher. Many franchise partners come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business careers. Read some of their franchise stories.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kansas require franchise registration?

No. Kansas is not a franchise registration state. Franchise sales are governed by the Federal Trade Commission's Franchise Rule, which requires the franchisor to give you a Franchise Disclosure Document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Seek independent legal advice before you commit.

Is Johnson County or Wichita a better place to start?

Both have sizable family markets. Johnson County has higher household incomes and dense new subdivisions; Wichita has a large population with fewer national tutoring brands. The right choice depends on where you live and the community you know.

Can a Kansas center serve families from Missouri?

A center serves the families in its territory catchment. In the Kansas City metro, families often cross the state line for work and activities, and territories are drawn around real catchments rather than state borders.

What does a Kansas center teach?

English and math from kindergarten to grade 12, using the brand's learning resources and structured program, which cover the broad skill areas Kansas classrooms and KAP focus on.
