Lubbock calls itself the Hub City, and for good reason. Families from dozens of small farming towns across the South Plains drive in for hospitals, shopping, college classes and youth sports. That regional pull is what makes a tutoring franchise in Lubbock interesting: a center here draws not only from the city's own neighborhoods but from a wide ring of communities with few comparable options.
The city had more than 250,000 residents at the 2020 census, according to the US Census Bureau, and the metro keeps spreading south and west. Success Tutoring launched in the United States in Texas, and Lubbock has territories available on the live map on this page.
A college town with a farming economy
Texas Tech University shapes much of daily life. With its health sciences center, the university employs thousands of faculty, researchers and clinicians, and many of those households have school-age children and high expectations. Lubbock Christian University, South Plains College's Lubbock campus and the large Covenant and UMC hospital systems add more professional families.
At the same time, cotton, agribusiness, wind energy and distribution keep the regional economy broad. Parents in Lubbock range from medical residents on a two-year stint to fourth-generation farm families, and both groups care about how their children are doing at school.
How Lubbock's schools are organized
Every public campus in Texas teaches to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and is rated A to F by the Texas Education Agency. For now, students sit STAAR exams in grades 3 to 8 and end-of-course tests in high school. In 2025 the Legislature passed House Bill 8, which replaces STAAR with three shorter tests across the school year, starting in 2027–28. Parents will be watching how the new beginning-, middle- and end-of-year results are reported.
Lubbock is not served by one big district. The main ones are:
- Lubbock ISD, covering most of the older city, including Tech Terrace, the Overton area and the neighborhoods around Lubbock High, which runs an International Baccalaureate program.
- Frenship ISD, serving southwest Lubbock and Wolfforth, where new subdivisions have pushed the district to add campuses.
- Lubbock-Cooper ISD, south of the city, which grew fast enough to open a second high school, Liberty High School, in 2023.
- Smaller districts such as Roosevelt, Idalou, Shallowater and Slaton on the edges of the metro.
Private options include All Saints Episcopal School, Trinity Christian School, Lubbock Christian School and Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lubbock.
What drives demand for tutoring in Lubbock
Moves into fast-growing districts. Families buying in Frenship or Lubbock-Cooper are often new to those schools, and new campuses can mean shifting attendance zones and fresh peer groups.
Dual credit and college readiness. Many high school students take dual credit courses through South Plains College or Texas Tech. Before enrolling, students usually need to meet the Texas Success Initiative standard, often through the TSIA2 test, so families want reading, writing and math skills secure well before junior year.
University families with mobile careers. Faculty, graduate students and medical staff arrive from other states and countries. Their children may meet TEKS and Texas testing for the first time.
Rural students commuting in. Small-town schools on the South Plains do a lot with limited staff. Parents who already drive to Lubbock for work or errands often look for regular academic support in town.
Where the opportunity sits
The territories on the map cover different parts of the city, from central Lubbock and the area around University Pines to the southwest neighborhoods. The neighborhoods with the most young families are mostly south of Loop 289: the 98th Street and 114th Street corridors, the Milwaukee Avenue and Upland Avenue strips, and the subdivisions spreading toward Wolfforth. Shopping centers along South Loop 289, Slide Road and 82nd Street are where many families already run their weekly errands, which matters when choosing a retail site.
Older central areas such as Tech Terrace and Lakeridge also have well-established family housing close to the university.
Running a Success Tutoring center in the Hub City
Success Tutoring operates as a franchise with retail-style learning centers. Support that may be provided includes help with site selection and leasing, fit-out, tutor recruitment and training, learning resources, marketing and launch support, along with ongoing guidance from the head office team. What is provided is set out in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.
A teaching career is not required. Partners lead the business and the team, and many come from corporate, engineering, finance or small-business backgrounds. Lubbock's universities are a natural place to look for tutors.
Frequently asked questions
Does Texas require a tutoring franchise to be registered with the state?
Texas has no franchise registration requirement, though franchisors typically file a notice under the Texas Business Opportunity Act. Federally, the FTC Franchise Rule says you must receive the Franchise Disclosure Document at least 14 days before signing or paying anything. Seek independent legal advice before you commit.
Could a Lubbock center serve families from outside the city?
Many South Plains families already travel into Lubbock regularly. How a center markets beyond its territory is covered by the franchise agreement, so discuss it during the application process.
Is Texas Tech a good source of tutors?
Lubbock has a large pool of university and college students, including those training to teach. Tutor recruitment and training support may be available; the details are in the disclosure documents.
What happens to Texas testing after STAAR?
House Bill 8 replaces STAAR with three shorter tests from the 2027–28 school year. Families will still have clear checkpoints through the year, which keeps attention on steady progress.
