Missouri has something most states do not: hundreds of school districts that run a four-day school week. Add two large metro areas with booming outer suburbs, and a tutoring franchise in Missouri has a few different ways to serve families, from weekly after-school sessions in St. Charles County to learning on the extra day off in smaller towns.
Texas was the brand's American launch, and Missouri has no centers yet. A Missouri partner would help pick the first territories on either side of the state.
Missouri's education system
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) oversees public schools, which follow the Missouri Learning Standards. Students are measured through the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP):
- MAP Grade-Level Assessments in English language arts and math in grades 3 through 8, with science in grades 5 and 8.
- End-of-Course (EOC) assessments in high school, including Algebra I, English II, Biology and Government.
- The ACT, which matters for college admission and for Missouri's Bright Flight scholarship for top scorers.
Missouri has more than 500 school districts, from large systems such as Springfield Public Schools, Kansas City Public Schools and St. Louis Public Schools to suburban districts including Rockwood, Parkway, Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt, Wentzville, Lee's Summit R-7, Blue Springs, Park Hill and Liberty. St. Louis also has one of the largest Catholic school systems in the country, and the MOScholars program helps some families pay for private schooling.
The four-day school week
A large share of Missouri districts, mostly rural and small-town, have moved to a four-day week, and a few suburban districts near Kansas City have tried it too. State lawmakers have since added incentives for districts to keep a five-day week. For parents in four-day districts, the extra day raises an obvious question about how to keep learning going.
Why Missouri families look for tutoring
- Gaps on MAP. Families who see a Basic or Below Basic MAP result want a dependable plan to move up.
- ACT and scholarships. The A+ Scholarship, Bright Flight and university merit scholarships reward strong grades and test scores, and families want solid algebra and reading skills before high school.
- Growing suburbs. Families moving into new subdivisions in St. Charles County and eastern Jackson County often have two working parents and want a reliable after-school program.
- Gifted and advanced tracks. Suburban districts run gifted programs and accelerated math with testing for entry.
Weekly attendance is the core of membership: students from kindergarten through grade 12 come in for English and math on a set schedule, which can be built around a four-day calendar where that applies.
Where Missouri is growing
St. Charles County (St. Louis metro). O'Fallon, Wentzville, Lake Saint Louis, St. Peters and Dardenne Prairie have been among the fastest-growing communities in Missouri, and the Wentzville School District has added several new schools.
West St. Louis County. Chesterfield, Wildwood, Ballwin and Eureka are served by the Rockwood and Parkway districts and are home to many professional families.
Kansas City northland and east. Liberty, Kearney, Smithville and the Park Hill area north of the river, plus Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Raymore and Grain Valley to the south and east. For the metro, which also spans Kansas, see our Kansas City tutoring franchise page.
Springfield and the Ozarks. Nixa, Ozark and Republic around Springfield have grown quickly, helped by the area's lower cost of living.
Columbia. Home to the University of Missouri and a large health-care sector, with a steady population of young families.
Running a Success Tutoring center in Missouri
Support in Missouri may include help locating a storefront, perhaps in a St. Charles County shopping center or near a busy Lee's Summit intersection, along with leasing and build-out guidance. Head office can assist with tutor recruitment and training and provides learning resources and a structured program, plus help planning local marketing before and after opening. The franchise agreement and disclosure documents spell out what support applies.
Teaching credentials are not required; partners have come to Success Tutoring from corporate, engineering and finance roles and from running small businesses.
Frequently asked questions
Do four-day school weeks create an opportunity for tutoring centers?
They can. Families in four-day districts often look for structured learning on the day off, while families in five-day suburban districts use after-school sessions. A center's schedule can be built around the families in its territory.
Which Missouri metro should I consider?
Both have strong suburbs. St. Charles County and west St. Louis County stand out around St. Louis, while Lee's Summit, Liberty and the Northland stand out around Kansas City. Springfield and Columbia are also worth considering.
Does Missouri require franchise registration?
Missouri is not on the list of franchise registration states. Your main protection is the FTC rule requiring the franchisor to provide the FDD at least 14 days before you sign anything or hand over money. Get a Missouri attorney to review the agreement independently.
Is there a Success Tutoring center in Missouri?
No. Missouri has no Success Tutoring centers yet. Partners in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield or Columbia would be the first.
