South Carolina has been one of the fastest-growing states in the country, according to the US Census Bureau, as families move in from the Northeast, the Midwest and neighboring states. Success Tutoring launched in the United States in Texas and is now looking for franchise partners to open its first membership-based K–12 English and math centers in the Palmetto State. A tutoring franchise in South Carolina would make you one of the first Success Tutoring partners in the state, with territories drawn with you.
South Carolina has about 5.5 million residents. Growth is concentrated in a few corridors: the Charleston region on the coast, the Upstate around Greenville and Spartanburg, the Midlands around Columbia, and York and Lancaster counties on the edge of Charlotte.
South Carolina's standards and tests
The South Carolina Department of Education oversees public schools, which teach to the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards. The state's main assessments are:
- SC READY in English language arts and math from grade 3 to grade 8.
- SCPASS in science in selected grades.
- End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) tests in high school subjects including Algebra 1, English 2, Biology 1 and US History and the Constitution.
The state's Read to Succeed law focuses schools on reading by the end of third grade. Students who fall behind receive reading support, and third-grade reading results can affect promotion. School and district report cards are published each year, and families moving into the state use them to choose where to live.
The school landscape
- Greenville County Schools is the largest district in South Carolina, serving a booming Upstate economy.
- Charleston County School District, home to Academic Magnet High School, one of the most selective public high schools in the state, along with Berkeley County and Dorchester District 2 in the Summerville area.
- Lexington-Richland 5, Lexington County School District One and Richland Two in the Columbia area.
- Fort Mill Schools and Rock Hill Schools in York County, which have grown with Charlotte's southern suburbs.
- The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville, a residential public high school for high-achieving students.
Charter schools, including the statewide Charter Institute at Erskine, and private and parochial schools add more choice.
Why South Carolina families turn to tutoring
- Scholarships that reward results. South Carolina's LIFE, HOPE and Palmetto Fellows scholarships use GPA and, for some awards, SAT or ACT scores to help with college tuition. Families have a clear financial reason to invest in grades.
- Third-grade reading. Read to Succeed keeps early literacy in focus from kindergarten.
- Families relocating. Parents who moved from New York, New Jersey, Ohio or Illinois often want help adapting to South Carolina standards and making sure their children are not behind.
- Competitive programs. Academic Magnet, the Governor's Schools and gifted and talented programs all reward strong academic records.

What partners receive

Frequently asked questions
Does South Carolina require franchise registration?
No. South Carolina is not a franchise registration state. The FTC Franchise Rule requires the Franchise Disclosure Document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Seek independent legal advice before you commit.
Is the Charlotte area of South Carolina a good place for a tutoring center?
Fort Mill, Tega Cay and Indian Land have seen rapid growth in young families, and their districts have expanded quickly. That makes them worth considering for a territory.
How do South Carolina's scholarships affect demand for tutoring?
Because LIFE and Palmetto Fellows awards depend on grades and, in some cases, test scores, many families start building skills in middle school. A membership model suits that long-term approach.
Are there Success Tutoring centers in South Carolina?
Not yet. Success Tutoring launched in the US in Texas and is expanding, so South Carolina partners would be among the first in the state.
