Wyoming is the least populous state in the country, which means very few education brands have tried to serve it. Success Tutoring launched in the United States in Texas and is open to franchise partners who want to bring its membership-based K–12 English and math centers to Wyoming's main cities. A tutoring franchise in Wyoming would make you the first Success Tutoring partner in the state, in markets where structured in-person tutoring is hard for families to find.
Wyoming has fewer than 600,000 residents, according to the US Census Bureau. Cheyenne, the capital, and Casper are the two largest cities, each with a population in the tens of thousands, and together with their surrounding areas they are home to a large share of the state's school-age children.
Wyoming's schools and testing
The Wyoming Department of Education oversees the state's 48 school districts, which teach to the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards. Students take:
- WY-TOPP (Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress) in English language arts and math from grade 3 to grade 10, with science in selected grades. WY-TOPP includes interim tests during the year as well as a summative test in spring, so parents and teachers can follow progress.
- The ACT in grade 11, taken by every junior at school.
The ACT matters more in Wyoming than in many states because of the Hathaway Scholarship, which helps Wyoming students pay for the University of Wyoming and the state's community colleges. Award levels depend on GPA, ACT scores and completing the Hathaway Success Curriculum in high school. For many families, that makes a strong high school record a direct financial benefit.
The local school picture
- Laramie County School District 1 serves Cheyenne and is the largest district in the state.
- Natrona County School District serves Casper and the surrounding area.
- Campbell County School District in Gillette, Albany County School District 1 in Laramie and Sheridan County School District 2 are the next-largest centers.
Cheyenne is also home to F.E. Warren Air Force Base, and military families who move between states want consistent support so their children do not fall behind with each move.
Why Wyoming families look for tutoring
- Hathaway eligibility. Families want their children to reach the GPA and ACT scores needed for higher scholarship levels.
- Math foundations. WY-TOPP results have shown many students below proficient in math, and parents want to address gaps early.
- Limited options. In most Wyoming cities, tutoring means finding an individual tutor or using online services. A dedicated center with a structured program stands out.
- Energy-sector schedules. Parents working shifts in energy, mining and transportation value a predictable weekly routine for their children.
Where a Wyoming center could open
Success Tutoring has not drawn territories in Wyoming yet. The most practical starting points are:
- Cheyenne, especially the growing north and east sides, close to the Colorado Front Range and served by Laramie County School District 1.
- Casper, Wyoming's central hub, with retail corridors along East Second Street and CY Avenue.
- Laramie, home to the University of Wyoming, with a strong pool of student tutors.
- Gillette and Sheridan, for a partner who knows northern Wyoming well.
What running a center involves
A Success Tutoring partner runs a retail-style learning center where students attend weekly sessions as members. Support can include:
- Site selection, leasing and fit-out.
- Tutor recruitment and training through an online franchise training platform, useful in a smaller labor market.
- Learning resources and a structured program.
- Launch and marketing support around opening.
- Ongoing marketing support from head office.
The support provided is set out in the franchise agreement and the Franchise Disclosure Document.
You do not need a teaching background. Partners come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business careers; your role is to lead the business and build relationships with local families and schools.
Frequently asked questions
Can a tutoring franchise work in a small state like Wyoming?
Cheyenne and Casper combine a meaningful number of school-age children with very few structured tutoring options. Territories are drawn with you around a local catchment, and results in any market are not guaranteed.
How does tutoring relate to the Hathaway Scholarship?
Hathaway eligibility depends on GPA and ACT scores, so some families look for weekly reading, writing and math support from the early grades onwards. Individual results vary.
Does Wyoming require franchise registration?
No. Wyoming is not a franchise registration state. The FTC Franchise Rule requires the Franchise Disclosure Document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Seek independent legal advice.
Could a Cheyenne center also serve northern Colorado families?
Cheyenne is about 45 minutes from Fort Collins, but each territory is drawn around a local catchment. A Cheyenne center would focus on Laramie County families.
