Territory data last updated .

Maple Ridge stretches along the north side of the Fraser River from the Pitt River to Whonnock, with the Golden Ears peaks and a huge provincial park at its back. Statistics Canada counted about 91,000 residents in 2021, and neighbouring Pitt Meadows added roughly 19,000 more. Together they are known as Ridge Meadows. A tutoring franchise in Maple Ridge serves a community that has quietly become one of the Lower Mainland's main destinations for young families who want a detached house or a newer townhouse without leaving Metro Vancouver.

Success Tutoring launched in Australia, went on to the US in Texas, and is now launching in Canada. This page's 14 km radius takes in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, Mission to the east, and the Walnut Grove and Yorkson neighbourhoods of north Langley across the Golden Ears Bridge.

A commuter community that keeps growing

Ridge Meadows grew up around Port Haney and the mill at Hammond. The West Coast Express commuter train stops at Port Haney, Maple Meadows and Pitt Meadows on its way to downtown Vancouver, while Lougheed Highway and the Haney Bypass carry most of the car traffic west towards Coquitlam. The Golden Ears Bridge, opened in 2009, gave the area a direct crossing to Langley and Highway 1.

Many Maple Ridge parents leave early for jobs in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey or Langley and get home long after school ends. A reliable after-school routine close to home is a real need.

Schools in Ridge Meadows and Mission

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows share School District 42 (Maple Ridge–Pitt Meadows). Mission has its own district, School District 75, and the Langley neighbourhoods in the radius belong to the Langley School District. A few independent and francophone schools also operate locally.

All of these schools teach to the provincial curriculum set by BC's Ministry of Education and Child Care. Younger students sit the Foundation Skills Assessment in Grade 4 and again in Grade 7, and every student must complete the literacy and numeracy graduation assessments in Grades 10 and 12 to earn a Dogwood Diploma. Since 2023, report cards up to Grade 9 use a four-point proficiency scale instead of letter grades.

SD42 has a few features parents talk about:

  • Thomas Haney Secondary, known across BC for its self-directed learning model, where students manage much of their own timetable and pace.
  • Samuel Robertson Technical, a secondary school with a strong focus on trades and technical education alongside academic courses.
  • The Environmental School, a district choice program that teaches much of the curriculum outdoors.
  • French Immersion, offered at selected schools for families who want a bilingual pathway.

A teenager on a self-paced timetable still needs steady study habits, and parents notice quickly when those slip.

What brings families to tutoring here

Over the past two decades, many families have moved out from Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver for more space, often bringing city expectations about after-school learning. Plenty of long-time residents also have children who are the first in the family to aim for university.

Several local factors feed demand:

  • Fast-growing catchments. New subdivisions in Silver Valley, Albion and Cottonwood have pushed some elementary schools to capacity, and parents worry about class sizes.
  • Report cards that are hard to read. Families who grew up with letter grades often want a clearer sense of whether their child is on track.
  • Distance from big-city options. Compared with Coquitlam or Burnaby, there are far fewer established learning centres per family, so many parents currently drive west for services.

Neighbourhoods and growth areas

The opportunity on this page follows the family neighbourhoods:

  • Haney and the town centre, around Haney Place and 224 Street, where Maple Ridge is encouraging apartments and mixed-use buildings close to transit.
  • Silver Valley and Albion, hillside and northeast neighbourhoods where new detached homes and townhouses have brought many young children.
  • Pitt Meadows, a smaller city of farmland, the regional airport and family suburbs around Harris Road, with its own territory.
  • Mission, across the municipal boundary to the east, a town of about 41,000 facing Abbotsford across the Fraser. See our Abbotsford page for the south side of the river.
  • Walnut Grove and Yorkson, in north Langley, just south of the Golden Ears Bridge. Our Langley page covers them in more depth.

Opening a Success Tutoring centre in Maple Ridge

Retail-style space in Ridge Meadows clusters along Lougheed Highway, Dewdney Trunk Road, the downtown core near Haney Place and community plazas such as those in Albion and on Harris Road in Pitt Meadows. Success Tutoring may support partners with site selection and leasing, fit-out planning, tutor recruitment and training, learning resources, marketing and launch planning. What is offered is set out in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.

A teaching career is not a requirement. Partners come from many backgrounds, including corporate, engineering, finance and small business. Douglas College in Coquitlam, SFU on Burnaby Mountain and Kwantlen's Langley campus are all within reach for tutor recruitment.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Maple Ridge page include Pitt Meadows?

Yes. Pitt Meadows shares a school district with Maple Ridge and sits inside this radius with a territory of its own. Mission and part of north Langley also fall within the 14 km circle.

Is Maple Ridge too far from Vancouver to support a tutoring centre?

The distance is part of the opportunity. Families here live, shop and go to school locally, and many would rather not drive to Coquitlam or Burnaby for after-school learning.

How do the West Coast Express and Golden Ears Bridge affect where a centre should go?

They shape commuting, but children attend centres near home and school, so family neighbourhoods and parking usually matter more than a train station.

What franchise rules apply in Maple Ridge?

British Columbia's Franchises Act applies across the province. A franchisor must give you a disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay anything. Seek independent legal advice before committing.
