London is the regional capital of Southwestern Ontario, and in recent years it has been one of the province's fastest-growing cities. The 2021 Census counted about 420,000 residents in the City of London, according to Statistics Canada, and population estimates since then show strong growth driven by newcomers and families moving west from the GTA for more affordable housing. For anyone looking at a tutoring franchise in London, Ontario, that means new subdivisions filling with school-age children and fewer established tutoring options than in Toronto.
Success Tutoring is launching in Canada in 2026, with a goal of 120 units by 2029, and London is one of the Southwestern Ontario cities where territories have been mapped.
The London school system
London's schools follow the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. The Thames Valley District School Board, one of the largest boards in Ontario, covers London along with Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin counties. The London District Catholic School Board runs the Catholic system, and French-language schools are run by Conseil scolaire Viamonde and Conseil scolaire catholique Providence. A number of independent and faith-based schools round out the options.
Parents follow the same Ontario milestones as everywhere else in the province:
- EQAO reading, writing and math in Grades 3 and 6, and the Grade 9 math assessment.
- The OSSLT in Grade 10, a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
- Senior courses whose marks decide university offers, including from Western University's competitive programs such as the Ivey HBA pathway, engineering and health sciences.
Thames Valley also offers French immersion, International Baccalaureate and specialist high skills majors at selected schools, which give families goals to plan towards.
What makes London different
London's economy rests on health care, education and advanced manufacturing. London Health Sciences Centre, Western University and Fanshawe College are major employers, and large new manufacturing investment in nearby St. Thomas is expected to bring more jobs to the region. Many London parents work shifts or commute, so a reliable after-school routine matters.
Families moving from the GTA often bring Toronto-area expectations about tutoring with them, and find fewer centres in their new neighbourhoods. At the same time, London has a large population of newcomer families, international students who stay after graduation and households for whom English is an additional language. Demand comes from both ambition and the need to catch up.
Math is the biggest concern, as it is across Ontario after recent curriculum changes, followed by reading and writing for the OSSLT. Success Tutoring's membership model, with regular weekly sessions in English and math from kindergarten to Grade 12, gives families continuity. London's school boards cover a wide area, so a centre in a neighbourhood plaza saves families a drive across town.
Where London is growing
London's territories are split by quadrant, which reflects how families in the city think about where they live:
- London North and North East, including Hyde Park, Fox Hollow, Sunningdale and Uplands, with newer family homes north of Fanshawe Park Road and close to Western.
- London Far West, including Kilworth, Riverbend and the West Five community, growing quickly along the western edge.
- London SW and London South, including Byron, Lambeth, Talbot Village and the subdivisions south of the Highway 401 junction with Highway 402.
- London East, including Argyle and the neighbourhoods towards Fanshawe College and the airport, with more affordable housing and many young families.
- Central London, where downtown residential projects and new rapid transit corridors are adding density.
Each territory is exclusive and drawn around data on residents, children aged 5 to 17, schools and tutoring competition, rather than ward or postcode lines.
Running a Success Tutoring centre in London
A London partner runs a retail-style learning centre, usually in a neighbourhood plaza with parking, hires and leads a team of tutors and grows a membership base. Success Tutoring can support site selection and leasing, fit-out, tutor recruitment and training, ongoing marketing and launch planning, and provides learning resources and a structured program. Support from the Success Tutoring team continues after opening, as described in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.
You do not need to be a teacher. Many partners come from corporate, engineering, finance and small-business backgrounds. With Western and Fanshawe in the city, there is a large pool of potential tutors, including students in education, science and engineering programs.
Frequently asked questions
Why consider London instead of the GTA for a tutoring centre?
London's commercial rents and housing costs are generally lower than the GTA's, and its newer suburbs have fewer established tutoring centres. Growth in family households makes the opportunity worth a close look.
Which London neighbourhoods have the most young families?
The north end, the far west around Kilworth and Riverbend, and the southwest around Lambeth and Talbot Village have seen the most new family housing. The map above shows which territories are open.
Can a London partner later expand to nearby cities?
Some partners grow to more than one centre over time. Ask about territories in surrounding cities such as Woodstock, St. Thomas or Kitchener-Waterloo; see the Kitchener-Waterloo page.
What legal protections apply when buying a franchise in London?
Ontario's Arthur Wishart Act (Franchise Disclosure), 2000 requires a disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Seek independent legal advice before you commit.
