Langley is really two municipalities: the compact City of Langley, with about 29,000 residents, and the much larger Township of Langley around it, with about 133,000, according to Statistics Canada's 2021 census. Between them sit some of the fastest-growing family neighbourhoods in British Columbia. A tutoring franchise in Langley serves households that moved east along Highway 1 and Fraser Highway for space they could not afford closer to Vancouver, and who now want the services they left behind.
Success Tutoring launches in Canada in 2026. This page's 10 km radius covers both Langleys and reaches west into Surrey's Clayton Heights, Cloverdale and Grandview Heights.
Schools in Langley and east Surrey
Both Langleys share the Langley School District (SD35). The Surrey neighbourhoods in the radius belong to the Surrey School District (SD36), the largest in BC. The francophone Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique has schools in the area, and Langley has a notable cluster of independent and faith-based schools, which BC partially funds.
Schools follow the BC curriculum from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, with the Foundation Skills Assessment in Grades 4 and 7 and graduation literacy and numeracy assessments in Grades 10 and 12. SD35 programs that families seek out include:
- The International Baccalaureate and Pre-IB at R.E. Mountain Secondary in Willoughby, which also offers Mandarin.
- French Immersion, continuing into secondary school at Walnut Grove Secondary and Brookswood Secondary.
- Langley Fine Arts School in Fort Langley, a district school with an intensive fine arts focus.
- A new secondary school, Emery Dosdall Secondary, scheduled to open in September 2027 to relieve pressure from growth.
Why Langley families use tutoring
Growth is the biggest driver. Willoughby and the neighbourhoods around it have added thousands of homes in a short time, and new schools have struggled to keep pace, with portables common. Parents in crowded schools often want more individual attention for their children in reading and math than a busy classroom can give.
The families moving in are also changing. Langley has growing South Asian, Korean, Chinese and Filipino communities, alongside families who moved from Surrey, Burnaby and Vancouver and are used to after-school learning as part of the week. Many parents commute long distances, so a centre in a nearby plaza with a fixed weekly schedule is valuable.
BC's proficiency-scale report cards for kindergarten to Grade 9, and the weight of Grade 11 and 12 marks for UBC, SFU and Trinity Western University admission, keep math and English at the front of parents' minds.
Where the territories are
The territories within this radius are Langley City, Langley North, Walnut Grove, Walnut Grove East, Yorkson, Brookswood, Grandview, Clayton Heights, Cloverdale and Cloverdale East:
- Willoughby and Yorkson, the Township's main growth area along 208 Street, where new townhouse and apartment neighbourhoods are full of young children.
- Walnut Grove and Walnut Grove East, established family suburbs near Highway 1 and the Golden Ears Bridge.
- Langley City and Langley North, around the city's downtown and the Willowbrook area, where the coming SkyTrain stations are expected to bring new housing.
- Brookswood, a leafy south Langley neighbourhood with growth planned in the Brookswood-Fernridge area.
- Clayton Heights, Cloverdale, Cloverdale East and Grandview, on the Surrey side, all fast-growing family communities. Our Surrey page covers more of that city.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain extension of the Expo Line is under construction along Fraser Highway, with eight new stations ending at Langley City Centre and completion expected in late 2029. Each Success Tutoring territory is exclusive and drawn around households, children aged 5 to 17 and schools.
Owning a Success Tutoring centre in Langley
Langley's family retail is concentrated around Willowbrook, Willoughby Town Centre, the 200 Street corridor and neighbourhood plazas in Walnut Grove, Brookswood and Cloverdale. Help from Success Tutoring can extend to finding and leasing a site, planning the fit-out, recruiting and training tutors and getting local marketing ready for opening, with learning resources and a structured program and continued support from head office. Refer to the franchise agreement and disclosure documents for what is included.
You do not need to be a teacher. Partners come from engineering, finance, corporate and small-business careers. Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Langley campus and Trinity Western University in the Township are good sources of tutors.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the Langley page include parts of Surrey?
Territories follow family catchments rather than city lines, and Clayton Heights, Cloverdale and Grandview Heights border Langley. Families there often shop and commute through Langley too.
How will the SkyTrain extension affect Langley territories?
It is expected to make Langley City and the Willowbrook area more connected and to encourage denser housing near stations. That growth adds families over time, though a centre's success depends first on being close to where families live.
What franchise law applies in Langley?
British Columbia's Franchises Act. It requires the franchisor to deliver a disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay. Seek independent legal advice from a BC franchise lawyer.
