Windsor is Canada's southernmost city, across the river from Detroit, with about 230,000 residents counted in the 2021 census by Statistics Canada and many more across Windsor-Essex County. It is a long way from Toronto, both in distance and in character, and that is part of the appeal of a tutoring franchise in Windsor: a lower-cost market with a growing economy and far less competition from established tutoring brands than the GTA.

Success Tutoring is launching in Canada in 2026, and Windsor is the western anchor of its Southwestern Ontario territories. The territories on this page cover the city and LaSalle, within a 15 km radius of downtown.

The school landscape in Windsor-Essex

Windsor students attend schools run by the Greater Essex County District School Board, the public board, and the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board. Two French-language boards also run schools in the region. The Catholic board has a large footprint here, so families genuinely weigh both systems when choosing schools.

All publicly funded schools follow the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum. Students write the provincial EQAO assessments in reading, writing and math in Grades 3 and 6, the Grade 9 math assessment at the end of the de-streamed course, and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) in Grade 10.

High schools in the region offer specialized pathways that families plan for, including International Baccalaureate, French Immersion, skilled trades and technology programs. The University of Windsor and St. Clair College are both in the city.

A changing economy, and what it means for families

Windsor has long been an auto town, home to the Stellantis Windsor Assembly Plant and a large network of parts suppliers and tool, die and mould makers. The economy is shifting. The NextStar Energy electric vehicle battery plant, a joint venture between Stellantis and LG Energy Solution, has brought one of the largest manufacturing investments in the region's history, and the Gordie Howe International Bridge adds a second major crossing to Detroit.

These are jobs that demand strong math, science and technical skills, and many Windsor parents see the link. Engineering, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing all start with a solid grounding in math. Families who want their children to share in the region's new economy are looking for help building those skills early.

Windsor is also a more affordable place to raise a family than the GTA, and the city has attracted newcomers from across Canada and overseas, including a substantial Arab-Canadian community and growing South Asian communities. Newcomer parents often want help understanding how Ontario teaches math and literacy.

Where the opportunity is in Windsor

The territories here follow the residential areas where families are concentrated:

  • South Windsor, an established, family-oriented area with strong schools, close to the University of Windsor and Devonshire Mall.
  • East Windsor, including Forest Glade, East Riverside and the new residential areas along the city's eastern edge.
  • LaSalle, a fast-growing town to the south-west, popular with young families moving out of the city.
  • Central Windsor, where the territory serves the dense neighbourhoods around downtown, Walkerville and the university.

Tecumseh, Lakeshore and Leamington, elsewhere in Essex County, appear on the wider Ontario map. Each territory is exclusive and built around a catchment of households, school-age children and schools.

Opening a centre in Windsor-Essex

A Windsor partner has support from head office through the set-up. That can include locating and leasing a retail unit, guiding the fit-out, and help with tutor hiring and online training. Learning resources and a structured program are provided, and a launch campaign can be planned for families in your catchment. Support terms are set out in the franchise agreement and disclosure documents.

An engineering or manufacturing career is a better preparation for this role than people expect: it is about systems, people and quality, not classroom teaching. University of Windsor and St. Clair College students give you a strong local pool of tutors.

Frequently asked questions

Is Windsor big enough for a tutoring franchise?

Each territory is drawn with the aim of including enough households and school-age children to support a centre. Windsor's lower commercial rents compared with the GTA can also help, and the details are covered in the investment schedule.

Do Windsor students follow the same curriculum as Toronto?

Yes. Every publicly funded school in Ontario follows the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum and writes the same EQAO assessments and the OSSLT, so the same core skills matter across the province.

Does the Arthur Wishart Act apply in Windsor?

Yes. Ontario's franchise disclosure law applies throughout the province. It requires a disclosure document at least 14 days before you sign or pay, and gives you rescission rights if disclosure is missing or deficient. Seek independent legal advice before signing.
